Dear Parent/teacher: We’re not an English language arts curriculum. We’re a revolutionary writing curriculum. Use our curriculum on its own or Along with any ela program. Let’s help your child be the writer they deserve to be!

From Greg Baran, creator of The Baran Method:

Whether your child is a beginning writer or a writing ninja, the emphasis needs to be on their great ideas, not style and mechanics. Without the burden of mechanics, kids learn to enjoy writing. Save the “style points” and grammar drills for later and instead focus on helping kids get their great ideas from their heads onto the paper. In college Freshman English Composition courses, this is issue number #1, so why can’t we teach this to kids before they get into college?

When parents and teachers validate a child’s great ideas, their confidence level increases dramatically. Kids shouldn’t have to wait to learn how to get their great ideas onto the paper and organize them. What if they could learn these critical skills while in elementary or middle school? At the very least, kids should start before high school. Imagine the amazing writing and critical thinking skills they would have before entering college or the business world.

When using The Baran Method, your child will learn these valuable skills. They’ll learn an easy-to-follow structure they can apply to any writing assignment. To help kids learn The Baran Method, we use three colors—blue, green, and red. The colors matter for association and recall. The colors become place-holders in the brain and help kids understand where ideas go on the page. And for kids, the colors make learning how to write fun. We suggest every writing assignment be written in blue, green, and red pens or font when typing.

The Baran Method turns every child into a writing ninja. Kids learn the method in the handbook and then practice in the workbook. We recommend every child have their own handbook since they’ll be referring to it regularly throughout their school years. Yet once your child has their own Baran Method text, there’s no need to purchase a new one every year. Just pick up a new workbook every year and keep practicing.

Our companion workbooks have meaningful and useful readings, and each reading has an accompanying writing exercise. Plus, there are lots of photos and artwork to add interest. The readings include classic fiction, non-fiction articles, and a few well-known poems. In addition, your child will be writing opinion (persuasive/argument) responses. The goal is to offer a well-rounded assortment of high-interest readings that interest students while offering excellent content for writing practice. Writing prompts for essays that are based on the readings are also included.

If kids do one exercise every other week, they won’t get burned out and they’ll get the practice needed to become a successful writer. Many teachers and parents believe students should do focused writing assignments every day, but that leads to burnout and the child learning to dislike writing, especially if kids aren’t sure what to write in the first place. Plus, if you follow this schedule, you’ll then have time to work on other aspects of English Language Arts.

Thousands of kids have learned to write with The Baran Method, and your child will become a writing ninja as well. Happy writing!

My kids are in sixth grade and eighth grade. We were bogged down in a popular homeschool curriculum that was really confusing, but I was hesitant to try something new. After a few weeks with this method, my kids are excited and I’m ecstatic that they can easily write amazing paragraphs!

“As a public school teacher, I saw our local district spend millions of taxpayer dollars on writing programs that didn’t work. We had a saying, “If it’s expensive and doesn’t work, they’ll use it. If it’s inexpensive and does work, they won’t.” This method works and it’s very affordable!
— Alex B., Middle School Teacher

What makes The Baran Method different?

The Baran Method is a revolution for both writing and the art of teaching writing because it demystifies and shows the pattern in successful writing. Effective writing often seems way too difficult for most of us. However, with The Baran Method learning to write clearly becomes understandable to everyone.

Thousands of parents, teachers, and their students have used The Baran Method to become successful teachers and writers.

How can you become part of the writing revolution?

Get The Baran Method and watch how quickly writing becomes simple, easy, and fun for your students and you.

All successful communication can be broken down into three key components: claim, evidence, and analysis. When these components are organized properly, our thinking, our communication, and our writing becomes clear. The Baran Method identifies these components step-by-step and walks you through to mastery of these three very basic elements. You can then easily pass this technique on to your students.

Children have great ideas, but often they are confused and frustrated as to where to put them on the paper. A builder needs a foundation to build a house upon and a writer needs a foundation in order to write clearly. When we understand how a project is put together, we’re free to allow our imagination to flow.

Unfortunately, the education system has failed the student and the teacher miserably. That’s why I developed The Baran Method—to help students write more clearly. So why be a part of this revolution? Simply put—our children are worth it.

At its heart, homeschooling is about relationships, values, and setting up our kids for long term success. The Baran Method helps parents build better relationships with their children and gives kids the tools to assure long term success. Indeed, the mission of The Baran Method is to support parents through fostering clear communication. When we can communicate clearly, success is close-at-hand. Our kids certainly deserve success and we’re happy to support you in helping your child achieve it.
